Day of Service with Housing Up

Housing Up is launching its annual Back to School Drive and this year is focused on ensuring each of the 2,000 children they serve has a backpack full of school supplies that will set them up for success. You can participate!

This year, the Back to School Drive will primarily operate out of an Amazon registry. The Back to School Drive is completely dependent upon the contributions from the community. Last year, Housing Up and partners were able to assemble and distribute a record total of 1,125 backpacks. Every school-age child in our Permanent Supportive Housing and Rapid Re-Housing programs received a backpack, an impact that reached nearly 750 households across DC. If you would like to support the drive, please make your purchase or provide donations by August 9.

Day of Service Photos from 2021 & 2022

In a newly created Day of Service at The Parks, a group of 25 volunteers from Urban Atlantic, Hines and Children’s National Hospital spent a warm morning packing 700 backpacks  full of brand-new school supplies in August 2021 and July 2022. The effort supported the work of Housing Up, a nonprofit with offices located on The Parks campus. Housing Up works to develop affordable housing and provide support services to more than 860 families, including 2,000+ children, in Washington, D.C.
