Art & Relaxation at The Parks

While you’re here, view three colorful murals throughout the lawn. Can you find them all? Look for a 16-foot caterpillar by Juan Pineda; a butterfly by Mas Paz; and a Painted Bunting bird by Jeff Huntington, aka Jahru; all three pieces by local artists. The Parks events team installed these during the pandemic to support artists while encouraging socially distanced fun. Come back over the summer for $5 yoga classes, world-class jazz concerts, happy hours, and more – plus the roses will be in bloom over the summer!

The Great Lawn at The Parks at Walter Reed is a 6-acre historically protected greenspace in the center of the redevelopment of the former Walter Reed Army Medical Center. The Great Lawn is open to the public and all are welcome to enjoy the Rose Garden, the gazebo bandstand, and the Lawn, just like the streets and sidewalks throughout The Parks. In 2023, a new public space opened, the Marketplace Plaza, which fronts Georgia Avenue near JINYA Ramen Bar and Whole Foods Market. Both the Great Lawn and Marketplace Plaza offer spots for public picnicking and a bit of quiet in the midst of the city, as well as hosting dozens of free community events each year.
